Man freed after acquittal in drugs-in-safety box trial

ALOR STAR: Family members of a drug accused jumped for joy when the High Court here acquitted the man of two drug trafficking charges without calling for his defence.

Judicial Commissioner Abu Bakar Katar, in passing down the sentence yesterday, said the court found that the prosecution failed to prove a prima facie case against Noor Zaidi Long, 45, from Langkawi.

“The prosecution failed to prove that the drugs found inside the safety box were under the care or control of the accused.

“The court also takes into consideration that the room was registered under the name of Nurul Adhani Abd Razat,” he said.

The same court also freed him of the second charge of possessing 41.38gm of methamphetamine at the same location and time.

Lawyer Datuk Naran Singh represented the accused while Deputy Public Prosecutor Zabidah Ahmad prosecuted.–thestar.com.my
