PETALING JAYA: Kuala Lumpur police have issued a stern reminder to motorists to obey traffic rules and be courteous on the roads as the annual balik kampung exodus draws near.
City deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mazlan Lazim said all road users should be alert and careful in their travel home during the Hari Raya period.
“Those found breaking the law will have action taken against them,” he said when contacted yesterday.
He also issued a warning to bus operators to make sure that their vehicles are properly maintained.
“We need everyone to play their part in keeping this year’s Hari Raya safe and peaceful for all,” he said, adding that police will conduct routine checks at road blocks.
The festive period has also seen police launching their road safety campaign Ops Selamat nationwide.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, who launched the campaign on Wednesday, called for stiffer punishment for errant road users.
Ops Selamat also includes more frequent police patrols in residential areas to guard against burglary. – THE STAR ONLINE
