KUALA LUMPUR – As one of the regions’s most established and respected institutions, the
Malaysian Institute of Management (MIM) organised the esteemed Global Excellence
in Management Awards (GEMA) 2013
to celebrate exemplary global leaders who
unwaveringly execute exceptional management practices through innovation,
creativity and transformation.

The objective of the GEMA 2013 awards is to recognise the best-in-class examples of
best practices in Management, Skills Appreciation, Human Capital Development,
Research and Development, Sustainability, Communication, Finance and Innovations.
GEMA 2013 was officiated by YB Dato’ Sri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, Minister of
Communications and Multimedia, Malaysia, who expounded the value of excellent
management practices as an influential factor to economic and social development.
Additionally, he addressed the importance of highlighting and showcasing leaders who
not only share their insight in good governance, but also tirelessly contribute to crafting
and executing good management schemes that help shape the world economy.

With more than 250 nominations received, the prestigious awards included Leadership
Excellence Awards such as Life Time Achievement; GEMA 2013 CEO of the Year;
Emerging Market Leader of the Year; Leadership Excellence in Management Best
to name a few. Furthermore, the Sectoral Excellence Awards included
Excellence in Management System; Excellence in Change Management- Public Sector;
Excellence in Total Quality Management; Excellence in Creativity & Innovation
among the many.

GEMA 2013 took place on 4 July 2013 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) from
7:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. The event was duly supported by some of the world’s globally
renowned and respected organisations namely American Leadership Development
Association (ALDA) and Federation of GCC Chambers of Commerce (FGCCC).

Among the judges from GEMA 2013 included:
 Dr. Tommy Weir, Emerging Market Leadership Centre, Middle East
 Arthur F. Carmazzi, World’s Top 10 Leadership Guru
 H.E. Badria Al Mulla, President International Emirates Business Group Steve Cheah, Thai-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce; and
 Dr. Nazily Mohd Noor, CEO Malaysian Institute of Management
The global event will not only be a moment for the achievers to finally reap what they
have sown, but also position themselves as an example for others to follow suit.
